Staff Audit Practice Alert 11, published by the IRBA on 25 September 2025, provides non-authoritative guidance on the impact of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and emerging technologies when applying certain requirements of the International Standards on Quality Management (ISQMs) and the International Standards on Auditing (ISAs) in South Africa.
As the audit profession evolves in response to technological advancements, it is critical for registered auditors to stay informed about emerging risks, ethical considerations, and professional responsibilities associated with the use of GenAI.

The areas we will be covering in the session are:
1. Risks and ethical considerations
- Maintaining professional scepticism and judgement
- Data privacy and confidentiality risks
- Compliance with ISQMs, ISAs, and firm policies
2. Integration of GenAI in the audit process
- Scope of technological resources covered by ISQM 1
- Firm-level policies and procedures for GenAI tools
- Engagement-level considerations when integrating GenAI
3. Integration of GenAI in financial reporting
- Specific challenges for auditors
- Understanding clients’ use of GenAI tools in financial reporting
4. Benefits of incorporating GenAI in audits
- Potential benefits

- A recording will be made available after the session. The recording will be available even if you were not able to join the session, and thus no refund will be applicable.
